Write the Vision, Publish the Dream

Then the Lord answered me and said: "Write the vision and make it plain upon tablets, That he may run who reads it."
 Habakkuk 2:2

Patricia’s love for poetry began in her pre-teen years at her home church, Greater Refuge Church of Christ in Philadelphia. She fondly remembers her Sunday School teacher, Sister Ellen Pittman, giving her the longest poems to memorize every year for the annual Easter and Christmas programs. Patricia always recited each holiday piece with excitement and expression.  She wrote her first poem at age fourteen and since then poetry has been an intricate part of her life.  High school afternoons were sometimes spent at the neighborhood library exploring different poets, studying their lives as well as their writing styles. Though her life had many twists and turns poetry remained a close companion and constant friend. However, it would be almost fifteen years before others would be introduced to her gift.

As a young woman working full time, raising a son and daughter as a single parent, and serving in several church auxiliaries, Patricia realized her writing was a gift from God to be shared with others. She accepted requests to write poems for church services, banquets and weddings. In 1992 she began writing Sunday School lessons for the Teen Series of Oracles of Truth, a national publication of the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Inc.  In 1996 she became the founding editor of The Companion, a newsletter for single, separated, divorced, and widowed women. She included an inspirational poem in each issue. By 2002 her mailing list had grown from twelve to over two hundred recipients in the U.S. and Canada. During this time she also began writing and facilitating leadership, parenting,  singles' and writing workshops for local and national conventions. But there was still more in store for Patricia and the world of writing.

After working for Verizon for more than twenty years, an early retirement option gave Patricia the opportunity to pursue her dream of starting her own company. In 2002 she started her own company I Write The Vision, now known as Poetricia Publishing, and began sharing her faith and her life experiences through poetry performances and workshops at shelters, transitional homes, recreation centers, summer camps and elementary schools. To perfect her gift she enrolled in Rutger University's Using the Arts in Prevention Certification Program and became certified with the New Jersey Coalition for Battered Women.  She served as the 2010 Poet-In-Residence of the Walt Whitman Arts Center in Camden N.J. where she conducted poetry readings and workshops for the community, and she is the Tri-State Coordinator for TAPS (The Apostolic Poets Society). Patricia works full time for Beasley Broadcasting at WTMR 800 AM where she's the Business Manager, and the creator and host of two radio shows: The Bridegroom Songs (Tuesdays 6:00am) and Poetic Praise (Fridays 6:00am).

Patricia's first collection of poetry, A TIME TO WRITE, was released in March of 2010 and since then she has had several book signings across the country. Her book can be purchased in Christian book stores in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey,  as well online at this website. Her second and third books are in development. She gives all the credit for her poetic achievements to the one who gave her the gift of poetry, her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
